Pupils at a Whitby primary school can now enjoy the use of new playground facilities thanks to a donation from Kebbell Homes. Back in 2008 the housebuilder, which has its Highfield Strand development nearby on Highfield Road, invited children at the Stakesby Community Primary School in Byland Road to take part in a Valentine’s poetry competition, whilst offering a £300 donation to the school.
After the success of the event, which saw the winning entrants awarded with Toys ‘R’ Us vouchers, the school has chosen to put the donation towards its fundraising activities for an area of playground decking. This smart octagonal-shaped wooden stage now sits in the corner of the playground, surrounded by artificial grass and seating areas for the pupils with the intention of music and drama events to be held outdoors in the summer months.
Sharon Robinson, acting head teacher at Stakesby Community Primary School, comments, “We are delighted to have secured the level of funding required for our new playground decking for which the contribution from Kebbell Homes played a significant part. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the poetry competition, showing enormous creativity and we envisage this stage giving them an opportunity to further showcase their talents, this time in music and drama.”
Linda Tillisch, Northern Sales Manager for Kebbell Homes, says, “We strongly believe it is vital to get involved within the communities in which we build and the decision to run a competition with the school was easy as our Highfield Strand development is just a short distance away. The standard of entries was extremely impressive and we are very happy to see that our cash donation has been put forward to something which will enhance these pupils’ education.”
Highfield Strand is an exceptionally popular development of just six new homes with views over the golf course to the sea.
Editor's Note: Highfield Strand has now been fully sold
